Celtic Claddagh 6 iNCHES
By Brutus Wiseton
A perfect gift for a special someone to let them know that your heart flies on wings of love. Finely crafted and expertly detailed, Haitian artist, Wiseton Brutus has hammered the message home: I LOVE YOU!
The Claddagh ring is named after its birthplace, Claddagh, a former fishing village on the west coast of Ireland. Various stories tell the story of the creation of the ring's design. One romantic legend tells of a man named Richard Joyce, who was supposed to be married to his true love. According to the story, he was kidnapped by pirates and sold into slavery, where he worked for a goldsmith and learned to design jewelry. He created a ring with the Claddagh design, and when he eventually managed to escape slavery, he brought the ring back with him. His beloved had never married during his long absence, so he gave her the ring he'd made while in slavery, and they were married immediately.
To begin the process of metal art sculpture, the artist first visualizes his design, often taking inspiration from his culture and natural surroundings. Next, he chalks his vision for the piece onto a 55-gallon drum that has been cleaned and pounded flat. Then, using only a hammer and chisel, he performs the heavy work giving his piece form and dimension. The result is a unique folk art sculpture, perfect for home or garden use.
